Tamil cinema’s acclaimed director Lokesh Kanagaraj is stepping into the spotlight. Known for blockbusters like Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo, he’s now training for his on-screen debut. Kanagaraj is learning martial arts in Thailand for an action film directed by Arun Matheswaran, known for Captain Miller. The project promises a blend of Matheswaran’s raw storytelling and Kanagaraj’s signature narrative twists.
Kanagaraj is no stranger to action. His Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) redefined Tamil cinema with its interconnected thrillers. Now, he’s embracing a new challenge as an actor. Industry sources say he’s training rigorously to master combat skills. This debut will showcase him as an action hero, a bold shift from his directorial role.
Meanwhile, Kanagaraj is multitasking. He’s overseeing post-production for Coolie, a standalone film starring Rajinikanth, set for release on August 14, 2025. The film reunites Rajinikanth with Sathyaraj after 38 years. It features Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and others, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. After Coolie, Kanagaraj will direct Kaithi 2 with Karthi and a superhero film with Aamir Khan.
