Bengaluru, India – July 14, 2025: The Indian film industry mourns the loss of legendary actress B. Saroja Devi, who passed away today at the age of 87 in Bengaluru due to age-related health issues. Known as “Abhinaya Saraswathi” (Goddess of Acting), she was a beloved icon in South Indian cinema, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that spanned over six decades.
Born on January 7, 1938, in Bengaluru, Saroja Devi began her acting career at 17 with the 1955 Kannada film *Mahakavi Kalidasa*. She went on to star in over 200 films across multiple languages, including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. Her grace, versatility, and powerful performances earned her widespread admiration and a special place in the hearts of audiences.
Saroja Devi was celebrated for her memorable roles in Kannada classics like *Kittur Chennamma*, *Babruvahana*, and *Annathangi*. She also shone in Tamil films such as *Nadodi Mannan* and *Thirumanam*, and Telugu hits like *Panduranga Mahatyam* and *Pelli Sandadi*. Her onscreen chemistry with stars like M.G. Ramachandran and Sivaji Ganesan made her a household name. Her last film appearance was in the 2019 Kannada movie *Nata Sarvabhouma*, alongside Puneeth Rajkumar.
