Acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali teams up again with Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh. Their new film, a soulful tale of love and longing, hits theaters in April 2026, coinciding with Baisakhi. This marks their second collaboration after the 2024 hit Amar Singh Chamkila.
The untitled project boasts a stellar cast. Naseeruddin Shah, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari join Dosanjh. The story blends a contemporary, witty narrative with deep human connections. Ali describes it as a personal yet grand tale of a boy, a girl, and a country. “Can love really be lost? Can home be taken away from someone’s heart?” he asks, quoting poet Momin Khan Momin.
The film reunites Ali with music maestro A.R. Rahman and lyricist Irshad Kamil. Their past works, like Rockstar and Tamasha, promise a memorable soundtrack. Filming begins in August 2025.
This period love story explores themes of renewal and identity. Sharvari plays the female lead opposite Vedang Raina. More leading ladies may join, as the narrative spans generations. Designer Sheetal Sharma, from Chamkila, will craft the film’s period aesthetic.
Fans eagerly await this emotional journey. Ali’s signature storytelling, paired with Dosanjh’s versatile acting, sets high expectations. The Baisakhi 2026 release aims to capture the festival’s spirit of hope and homecoming.
